Introduced in 1890, the modifications addressed some of the feeding problems and structural weaknesses of the original rifle. The improvements mainly focused on reinforcing the bolt and improving the magazine system to prevent jamming and misfeeds. Despite these upgrades, the Kar 88/90 was still overshadowed by the introduction of the Mauser 98 design, which was far superior in terms of durability and functionality. Production numbers for the 88/90 were limited, and it saw service primarily in the German Empire's colonial forces and second-line units. By the early 1900s, it was largely retired from frontline service, but it remained in use for training and reserve purposes.Related Weapons: Mauser M1871/84 Mauser K98k M48 Mauser Mauser Gew. 98 K.
