The Type 46 Siamese Mauser was a bolt-action rifle adopted by the Kingdom of Siam (modern-day Thailand) in 1903 (corresponding to the Buddhist year 2446, hence "Type 46"). Designed to meet Siam's military needs, the rifle was based on the German Mauser Model 1893 and 1898 systems. It was chambered in the unique 8x50mmR cartridge, which was developed specifically for Siamese forces. Manufactured under contract by Japan's Koishikawa Arsenal, the Type 46 featured a straight-bolt design and a five-round internal magazine. Its robust construction and reliability made it well-suited to the tropical climates of Southeast Asia.

Production of the Type 46 began in Japan and continued into the early 20th century, with tens of thousands of units manufactured for Siamese forces. In the 1920s, many Type 46 rifles were converted to the newer 8x52mmR cartridge, giving rise to the Type 66 variant. The rifle served as the standard infantry weapon of the Siamese army for several decades, seeing action in regional conflicts and internal uprisings. Despite being replaced by more modern rifles in later years, the Type 46 remained in reserve service for some time.
