The M1893 Spanish Mauser was a bolt-action rifle designed by Paul Mauser and adopted by Spain in 1893. Chambered in 7x57mm Mauser, it was the first Mauser rifle to feature a clip-loaded internal magazine and a controlled-feed bolt system, which greatly improved reliability and ease of use. The rifle gained international fame during the Spanish-American War, particularly during the Battle of San Juan Hill, where Spanish forces equipped with the M1893 inflicted heavy casualties on U.S. troops. Its performance in this conflict highlighted the superiority of the Mauser design and led to its widespread adoption by other countries. Over 200,000 units were produced for Spain, and the M1893 influenced the design of many subsequent Mauser rifles, solidifying its place in firearms history.
