The FN FAL, often referred to as "The Right Arm of the Free World," is a battle rifle developed by the Belgian company Fabrique Nationale (FN) in the late 1940s. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, the FAL became one of the most widely used rifles during the Cold War, adopted by over 90 countries, including many NATO members. It was designed to provide infantry with a reliable and powerful semi-automatic rifle, though some variants featured selective fire.

The FAL saw extensive service in various global conflicts, including the Falklands War, the Vietnam War, and numerous African and Middle Eastern wars. It was praised for its accuracy, range, and durability, making it an effective weapon in a variety of environments. However, its weight and recoil in fully automatic mode led to some criticisms, particularly in comparison to lighter, more modern assault rifles.

Despite being phased out in many countries in favor of newer assault rifles, the FN FAL remains in service in several nations and is still favored by paramilitary groups and militias. Its widespread use and robust design have made it one of the most iconic battle rifles of the 20th century.
