The FN MAG 58 is a Belgian-designed general-purpose machine gun (GPMG) developed by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in the 1950s. Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, it was designed to serve in both infantry and vehicle-mounted roles. The FN MAG became one of the most widely adopted machine guns in the world, used by over 80 countries and still in service today.

Adopted by numerous military forces, including the British Army (as the L7), the U.S. (as the M240), and many NATO members, the FN MAG gained a reputation for its reliability and effectiveness in various combat environments. It was used extensively in conflicts ranging from the Vietnam War to the Gulf War and beyond. The gun's ability to provide sustained, accurate fire made it a favorite among infantry units.

The FN MAG's success is due to its simple, robust design, which allows for ease of maintenance and operation even in harsh conditions. Its long service life and widespread use have cemented its status as one of the most successful and enduring machine guns in modern military history.
