FN MINIMI
| |||||||||||||
The FN MINIMI is a Belgian light machine gun developed by Fabrique Nationale in the late 1970s. Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, it was designed to provide infantry units with a highly portable and effective automatic weapon. The MINIMI can be belt-fed or used with standard NATO magazines, giving it versatile operational capabilities.
The MINIMI was adopted by the U.S. military in 1982 as the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) and quickly became a key component of small unit tactics, providing sustained automatic fire at the squad level. The weapon's light weight and flexibility made it ideal for modern infantry operations, and it saw extensive use in conflicts such as the Gulf War, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
The FN MINIMI has proven to be one of the most effective light machine guns in the world, with variants still in service today. Its combination of portability, firepower, and reliability has made it a favorite among soldiers and a staple of modern military arsenals.
