The Mosin-Nagant M38 was a shortened carbine version of the famous Russian Mosin-Nagant rifle, developed in 1938. Chambered in 7.62x54mmR, the M38 was designed to provide Soviet infantry with a lighter, more maneuverable firearm for close-quarters combat. It retained the bolt-action mechanism of the original Mosin-Nagant but featured a shorter barrel, making it more suitable for urban warfare and mobile infantry operations.

The M38 saw extensive use during World War II, especially on the Eastern Front. Its compact size made it ideal for Soviet troops operating in dense forests, urban environments, and other close-quarters situations. Although it was less accurate at long ranges compared to the full-length Mosin-Nagant 91/30, the M38's ease of handling made it a favorite among Soviet troops. It was also widely used by Soviet partisans and irregular forces.

Despite being replaced by more modern designs like the SKS and AK-47 after the war, the Mosin-Nagant M38 remains a popular collector's item today. Its rugged design and historical significance make it a favorite among firearms enthusiasts, especially those interested in Soviet weaponry. The M38's role in the Soviet victory during World War II adds to its notoriety.
