Galil ARM
| |||||||||||
The Galil ARM (Assault Rifle and Machine gun) was developed in Israel in the late 1960s, based on the Finnish RK 62, which in turn was derived from the AK-47. Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, the Galil ARM was designed as a versatile weapon capable of serving as both an assault rifle and a light machine gun, thanks to its bipod and heavier barrel.
Adopted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the early 1970s, the Galil saw action in various conflicts in the Middle East. It became known for its reliability, particularly in harsh desert conditions, and its versatility made it a favored choice for infantry units. The Galil's design incorporated features from both Western and Soviet weapons, such as the M16 and AK-47.
The Galil ARM gained international notoriety for its effectiveness in both automatic and semi-automatic fire. Though it was eventually replaced by the Tavor in Israeli service, it remains in use by various military and law enforcement units around the world.
