The Ruger MP9 is a compact and lightweight submachine gun developed in the 1990s by the American firearms manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Co. Designed by Uziel Gal, the creator of the Uzi, the MP9 builds upon the successful design principles of its predecessor while incorporating modern features. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum, the MP9 utilizes a blowback-operated system and features a polymer frame to reduce weight. It is equipped with a folding stock for versatility and compact storage, as well as an integrated Picatinny rail for mounting optics and other accessories.

Production of the Ruger MP9 was limited, as it was primarily marketed to law enforcement and military users. The weapon was not widely adopted due to stiff competition from other submachine guns on the market, such as the Heckler & Koch MP5 and FN P90, which had already secured a dominant presence in the global market. Despite its limited production, the MP9 demonstrated reliability and accuracy during trials, but its lack of substantial advantages over competitors hindered its broader success.

The Ruger MP9 remains a relatively obscure firearm with a modest legacy, notable mainly for its connection to Uziel Gal and Ruger's brief foray into the submachine gun market. While it never achieved significant notoriety or widespread adoption, it is regarded as a well-designed and functional weapon by collectors and enthusiasts. The MP9's innovative design features, particularly its lightweight construction and adaptability, continue to be appreciated by those who value compact and efficient firearm engineering.
