Type: Submachine Gun
Country of Origin: Germany

The MP28 submachine gun was designed by German engineer Hugo Schmeisser in the late 1920s as an improvement over the earlier MP18. Chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum and featuring a blowback mechanism, the MP28 was a select-fire weapon with an enhanced design that allowed both semi-automatic and fully automatic firing modes. It also included a 20- or 32-round detachable magazine, and its simple, robust construction made it suitable for mass production and effective in close-quarters combat.

The MP28 was produced by Haenel and was exported widely in the 1930s, with various licensed and unlicensed copies appearing in other countries, including Belgium and Japan. While exact production figures are uncertain, thousands of MP28s were manufactured and distributed globally. The MP28 saw extensive service in various conflicts, including the Spanish Civil War and the early years of World War II, primarily with German police and military units, as well as with other countries that adopted the design for their own armed forces.

Known for its reliable performance and adaptability, the MP28 was considered a significant advancement in submachine gun technology. Its durability and select-fire capability made it a versatile choice for both military and police use, and it influenced later submachine gun designs. Today, the MP28 is a respected historical firearm, noted for its role in submachine gun evolution and its widespread influence, especially as many nations incorporated or copied its design in the pre-World War II era.
