M1895 Nagant
| |||||||||||
The M1895 Nagant revolver was a Russian service revolver designed by Belgian brothers Leon and Emile Nagant. Chambered in 7.62x38mmR, the revolver featured a unique gas-seal system that allowed it to be used with a suppressor, a rare feature for revolvers. It was adopted by the Russian Empire in 1895 and saw extensive use throughout the 20th century.
Used by Russian and later Soviet forces, the Nagant revolver was praised for its robustness but criticized for its slow reloading process. It remained in service through both world wars and into the Cold War, despite being replaced by more modern semi-automatic pistols like the TT-33.
The M1895 Nagant is notable for its long service life and unique design. It remains a symbol of Soviet military history, and its ability to be suppressed has made it a popular firearm in historical espionage lore.
