The Nordenfelt Gun was a manually-operated, rapid-fire weapon designed in the 1870s by Swedish engineer Helge Palmcrantz and later produced by the British Nordenfelt Guns and Ammunition Company. This gun featured multiple barrels (usually two, four, or five) aligned side by side, fired by the operator moving a lever back and forth, with each stroke firing one round per barrel in quick succession. Designed to fire rifle-caliber rounds, the Nordenfelt gun was particularly effective in an anti-infantry role and was valued for its simplicity and reliability compared to other early machine guns of the time.

The Nordenfelt Gun saw significant production and use, with several hundred units manufactured and deployed by the navies and armies of countries like Britain, Russia, and Greece. It was particularly popular with the British Royal Navy, where it was mounted on ships to repel boarding parties and protect against small, fast-moving vessels. The gun was notably used in colonial campaigns and on smaller gunboats, proving effective in scenarios where heavy sustained firepower was not necessary but rapid response to close-quarters threats was essential.

Known for its reliability and ease of operation, the Nordenfelt Gun gained a reputation as a dependable weapon, though it was soon eclipsed by fully automatic machine guns like the Maxim. The Nordenfelt's fame extended to popular culture, where it became synonymous with the image of Victorian-era multi-barrel rapid-fire guns. Today, it remains a key example of transitional machine gun technology and is displayed in military museums as an important predecessor to more modern automatic weapons, representing an era of innovation in rapid-fire artillery.
