Thompson 1928
| |||||||||||||
The Thompson 1928 is a variant of the original Thompson submachine gun, designed with a slower rate of fire and improved ergonomics. Chambered in .45 ACP, the 1928 model featured a Cutts compensator and the option for drum or stick magazines, making it more versatile than the earlier 1921 model.
Widely used during World War II, the Thompson 1928 was issued to U.S. troops and Allied forces in large numbers. Its high rate of fire and reliability made it an effective weapon in both urban and jungle warfare. The 1928 model was also used by paratroopers and special operations units, who appreciated its compact design and firepower.
After World War II, the Thompson 1928 continued to see limited service in various conflicts, but it was gradually phased out in favor of more modern designs. Nevertheless, the 1928 model remains one of the most iconic submachine guns ever produced, and its association with both military and civilian use has made it a lasting symbol of 20th-century weaponry.
