The Webley Mk. IV revolver was developed by Webley & Scott and entered service with British forces in 1899. Chambered in .455 Webley, the Mk. IV was a top-break revolver known for its durability and stopping power. It was widely used by British and Commonwealth forces, particularly in colonial wars.

Adopted officially during World War I, the Webley Mk. IV was favored for its reliability in the muddy trenches. Its simple design allowed soldiers to reload quickly, an advantage in combat situations where speed was critical. Although eventually replaced by semi-automatic pistols, the Webley remained in service for many years.

The Webley Mk. IV earned a reputation as a robust and powerful sidearm, and its service life extended into World War II, though it was mostly replaced by the Enfield No. 2 revolver in frontline use. Today, it is remembered as a quintessential British military revolver, symbolic of the Empire's military history.
