The Liege M1853 Musket was a Belgian-made percussion cap rifle based on the French Mlle. 1853 Musket. Manufactured in the city of Liege, a major European center for firearms production, this musket was designed for use in mid-19th century warfare. Like the French muskets it as derived from, the Liege M1853 was produced with a rifled barrel, improving accuracy and range over earlier smoothbore muskets, although smoothbores were also produced.

Adopted by Belgium and several other nations, the Liege M1853 was used in a variety of conflicts, particularly in colonial campaigns. Its effective range and reliability made it a preferred weapon for soldiers, especially when faced with the need for longer-distance engagements. The use of the percussion cap system, as opposed to flintlock mechanisms, also enhanced its dependability in the field.

Though eventually replaced by breech-loading rifles, the Liege M1853 remained in use for several decades, especially in regions where older firearms continued to be employed. Today, it is considered a valuable collectible and an example of mid-19th century European military technology.
